What does “Made in West Germany” mean? / What does “made in West Germany” mean?

You see the inscription “Made in West Germany” on products again and again at flea markets or in Brockenhäuser, but what does that actually mean?

The designation "Made in West-Germany" on items of clothing, for example, indicates that the item of clothing was made in West Germany. This term was used in the years before German reunification, when Germany was divided into two separate states, the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). West Germany was the name for the Federal Republic of Germany, which emerged from the western occupation zones after the Second World War. After reunification in 19990, the labeling was changed and other variants such as "Made in Germany" or simply "Made in EU" were used.

So if you find the inscription "Made in West-Germany" on a piece of clothing or a vase, it is guaranteed to be vintage!
