Is wearing vintage fur OK? / Is wearing vintage okay?

Vintage fur - Opinions vary widely here. This article looks at some of the pros and cons of vintage fur to take a closer look at the controversial debate surrounding its use.

Arguments for vintage fur:

1. Sustainability: Vintage fur products reduce the demand for new fur and contribute to sustainability.

2. Unique Style: Vintage fur can provide a unique style and timeless elegance that modern materials lack.

3. Longevity: Fur products from decades past can often be very durable and can be worn for generations.

4. History and Culture: Vintage fur pieces can have cultural and historical value, and owning such pieces can show appreciation for the past.

5. Recycling: Reusing vintage fur products helps reduce waste and resource consumption.

Arguments against vintage fur:

1. Animal Welfare: The fur trade has historically resulted in cruel animal cruelty, and wearing vintage fur can raise animal welfare concerns.

2. Symbolic Meaning: Wearing fur can be seen as a symbol of luxury and status, which can be problematic in times of growing awareness of social justice and sustainability.

3. Ethics: Even though vintage fur already exists, owning it can still be considered ethically questionable because it supports the fur trade in some way.

4. Care Requirements: Fur requires special care and attention to maintain its quality, which may be inconvenient for some people.

5. Legal Restrictions: In some regions and countries, certain forms of fur trading and ownership are illegal, even if the fur is vintage.

What do you think? Is vintage fur ok since the animal is already dead (I often hear), or is it still not ok? Even though I'm personally against vintage fur, there are probably few situations in which I would theoretically be ok with it. But would it work here in Switzerland, in Zurich? Hell, no!!! What do you think about that?

Greetings, your Kate <3
